Is galaxy clustering special inside voids?

We measure the reduced void probability function (VPF) inside and outside of cosmic voids in the TNG300-1 simulation. This statistic is a special case of the counts-in-cells approach for extracting the high-order clustering information necessary for a full understanding of the large-scale distribution of galaxies. Numerous redshift surveys have validated the paradigm of hierarchical scaling of the galaxy clustering moments that seems to be in agreement with the “negative binomial” model. It is also known that this scaling breaks down in real space, which has discouraged the use of the VPF as a mainstream tool for studying the high-order clustering of galaxies. However, in this work we find that, despite hierarchical scaling not being preserved in most environments in real space, it can indeed be found inside cosmic voids. This finding indicates that there is hierarchical scaling for the high-order clustering of galaxies inside voids, well fitted by the negative binomial model, preserving the pristine structure formation processes of the Universe.
